Original Workman Robot Base from Kadtronix

SW1 was built by expanding on a robot base offered by Kadtronix. That's the beauty of Kadtronix unique design- expandability according to your needs and ideas.

SW1 has a 24 volt system consisting of (2) 12 volt 17AH batteries, two way audio communication, color video vision, and is radio controlled via a standard RC system.

The camera (the small white device on the top) is a color camera. Power for the camera is supplied by the small box below it which takes the 24V system voltage and regulates it down to 5V required by the camera. This same 5V is supplied to an electret mike and mike amplifier which is also housed within this box.

Video signals from the camera and audio signals from the small black box below it are fed to an ATV (Amateur Television) transmitter in the larger black box below that. This box also contains a 24 to 12 volt switching converter to power the ATV transmitter. Power output of the transmitter is 2 watts insuring clear pictures just about anywhere you want to take it. To use this transmitter you MUST be a licensed Amateur Radio Operator. Using this transmitter without a license can get you in big trouble with the FCC and get your equipment (including your robot)confiscated. If you are not an Amateur Radio operator, other TV transmitters are available with a range of about 1000 feet. That should be plenty of distance for most applications.

Note the anti tip bar in the front. This prevents SW1 from tipping forward and falling flat on it's "face" on sudden stops or when stopping when going down hills. I've distributed the batteries so that this doesn't usually happen (pictures of battery placement to follow) but I think that the bar is still a good idea.

The following pages will point out some changes from the original Kadtronix Base and other features of SW1
