Robot1 (Some day I'll give him a real name)- Front view. At least my wife gave him a face.
Robot 1 is built on a discarded electric wheelchair base It has a 24 volt system consisting of (2) 12 volt 32AH batteries, two way audio communication, color video vision, and is radio controlled via a standard RC system. The camera (the small white device on the top) can be panned +/- 175 degrees from center (straight ahead). The panning is accomplished by a subsystem in the black box below the camera. The sub system consistes of a 7.5 degree stepper motor controlled by a PIC16F84 which gets it's instructions from one channel of the RC receiver and a stepper driver chip. The camera self centers at turn-on and if no signal is received for 15 seconds after the last pan command.
Note the small anti tip wheels in the front which normally ride about 1 inch off the ground. These wheels also make it easy to climb small curbs such as found at the base of a driveway
